We the Silent Bible Baptist Church are a completely separate church. We are meeting right now in the building with the Friendship Baptist Church in a separate large room. We wish to thank the members and pastor Bro. Steve Day for opening the doors of their church building to us. They have went above and beyond what we ever expected by lending us space for offices and storage. They have also allowed us to use the missions facilities and dining hall for many of our activities. They have supported us in all that we have done. We really feel that they have showed us what "True Christianity" is all about. Many so called Christians are are too busy criticizing one another for their worship and the way this and that is done and all the small details of service that they forget the focus of the church itself...winning souls for Christ.

We are currently meeting with the Friendship Baptist Church all the while saving our money into a building fund that will allow us to build or purchase our own building for the deaf in the future. We are also trying to support missionaries to the deaf, and paying for activities that will help reach the deaf in our community. We also have a visitation program that allows us to visit the deaf in our community and reach them for Christ. We also have contests with another deaf church in Hutchinson called Countryside Baptist Church Where Bro. Leonard Lickteig is the Pastor.

In visiting our services on Sunday you will find that we have a deaf song leader that will lead us in songs as we follow using ASL. We have no piano or organ or any musical instruments of any kind. Then we pass the offering plate for the members and visitors to be allowed (not forced) to pay their tithes and offerings. We preach strongly on the giving of your tithes because this is a commandment of God. Deuteronomy 12:11 Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD: We feel that if the deaf do not pay their tithes then God will personally take care of them. We do not need to force anyone to pay tithes... God will do that through the punishment according to His judgment.

We also allow the deaf to sing special songs in our services. Then we will hear a message or sermon from the pastor. The pastor will ask us to turn in our bibles to a specific book and chapter where we then have the opportunity to read God's word for ourselves. This allows God's word itself to speak to us. How powerful is that! The sermon is preached in ASL with the help of visual aids through either the overhead projector, white board, or a Power Point presentation. Papers that contain the message being taught at the time are handed out so that it is easy to follow the message given and then also to be able to take something home and study later. After the message is given, we then give an altar call. This allows the deaf to come forward and repent of their sins, or receive Christ as their personal Savior, or join the church, or just pray for another deaf person.

There are times that we will offer dinner after the services for fellowship of the brethren. This is what we call..."bellyship"

Also in the services offered here at the Silent Bible Baptist Church we have guest speakers and singers and missionaries that give us the insight and deliverance of God's word through another source. We believe that when God told the pastor to "feed the flock" in I Peter 5:2... he did not say that only the pastor could feed them. It is true that the pastor's duty is to make sure that the sheep (members) of the flock (church) are fed. But it does not mean that it is only the pastor that can feed them. If you are a parent you realize that your duty to your children (among the many duties that you have) are to feed them so that they do not starve and then die. You don't necessarily have to hold the spoon or fork to feed them. You just watch or see to it that they are fed. There are many pastors even in the hearing churches that are acting as "Lord's over God's heritage" (bosses over God's children) and doing all the preaching and teaching in the church because they feel that they are the only ones qualified to do so. We do need to be careful who we put in front of others to feed us (preach or teach) because we wish to make sure that we get fed properly and scripturally! How can a preacher ever become a good speaker or a Sunday School teacher a good teacher without ever getting started somewhere?

Our church also offers a visitation program that allows our members to get out and visit the deaf that are lost (without Christ in their hearts) and witness (Tell) to them leading them to Christ. This also allows the pastor and deaf members to visit the shut-ins (those that are in nursing homes, and rehab centers) and those that are in hospitals.

Our church also offers the opportunity to all deaf members to be able to fulfill an office or duty in the church. The deaf member can become a deacon, a trustee, a church clerk, secretary, usher, or join the food committee. There are so many different ways that God can use us in His service for Him through the local deaf church.

So WHO ARE WE... We are the Silent Bible Baptist Church for the deaf and hard of hearing in the city of Wichita that comes together in worship and service to the great God of Abraham with the willingness in our hearts to do what he has commanded us to do in His word. We wish to give you this invitation to come and visit our church and then join with us in service and worship to God.

A brief history;

The Silent Bible Baptist Church of Wichita, Kansas had it's first service on May 4th, 1969. It was organized and pastored by the late Rev. Kendall A. Wilcoxson. Bro Wilcoxson being hard of hearing himself and having a God given love for the deaf, felt that it was necessary for the deaf to be able to have a church that they could be proud of and take a part in it's spiritual and physical growth. In the S.B.B.C. the deaf were able to be deacons, trustees, church clerks, treasurers, ushers, song leaders, special singers, and missionaries, or whatever God has called them to do. They were also encouraged to pay their tithes, offerings, and missions giving. To this day, nothing has changed in that respect.

In May of 2005, God called Bro. Ron Wilcoxson and his family back into the ministry to the deaf. Some of the original charter members of the S.B.B.C. that “were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. ” in the Wichita Metro area had contacted Bro. Ron and expressed their desire to have the church they once had so much enjoyed. So Bro. Ron then moved his family to the Wichita area to start reorganizing the S.B.B.C. and help them find a new pastor that is called of God. Right now the focus of the people in this church is first, that of Christ's focus in Luke 19:10 “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Secondly, to build a new building for the deaf that they may claim and keep as a building to worship in. This is a church dedicated to God in allowing it's members to serve Him in every way possible.
