“GOD SHAKES THE WORLD, AGAIN”
Hebrews 12:18-21

“ For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, 19) And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: 20) (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: 21) And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

Introduction

A) Jesus is our Buffer

  • He stands between the wrath and God and mankind.
  • One day when Jesus leaves the right hand throne of God, there will be no stopping the wrath of God’s judgment upon this earth.
  • Our God’s mercy will become wrath.

I. Why Does God Shake The Earth

A) To bring fear

  • Exodus 19:16-19… “16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. 17) And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 18) And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19) And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.”

B) God’s way of bringing Judgment

  • Exodus 20:18,19… “ And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. 19) And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. 20) And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.”
  • To judge the sinners.
  • And to bring them into repentance.

C) Because people refuse those who speaketh from God

  • Hebrews 12:25… “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:”
  • Moses, Paul, and Noah were refused.
  • God is refused in many ways in the world today. (in our Government, schools, and even in many churches.

D) The real reason for the shaking…

  • Is found in Hebrews 12:27… “And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.”
  • To remove those things that are an abomination unto God!

II. The Future Shaking of the Earth

A) Also Heaven

  • Hebrews 12:26… “Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven…”
  • Peter spoke of that time… II Peter 3:10… “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
  • John saw the day in Revelation 6:12-17… “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13) And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14) And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15) And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16) And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17) For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”
  • I hope that you have accepted Christ as your personal savior. · This will be a day that the world is not ignorant of, but a day they will realize that all Christians had been waiting for.

III. Who, and What Will Be Affected

A) All Nations

  • Joel 3:2… “ I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.”
  • There will be none that are exempt.

B) All life on earth

  • Government, Hollywood actors, religious groups of all sorts.

C) Heaven will be affected

  • Revelation 21:1-5… “1 And I saw (John saw this)a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2) And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3) And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5) And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

IV. What will Remain after the Shaking

A) Moses remained

  • After God shook the earth during the Moses era, Moses and the faithful were left to carry on.

B) Jesus will remain

  • Hebrews 1:11… “ And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11) They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
  • Jesus our Rock, the foundation of the world will remain.

C) The Bible will remain

  • Many people through the ages have tried to destroy our Bible. And many today are still trying to destroy it by watering down the King James version so that there is no blood in it, some saying that God is a woman, and others leaving out important verses, and so on.
  • Matthew 24:35… “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
  • Psalms 119:89… “ For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”

D) The New Heaven and the new earth will remain

  • II Peter 3:13… “Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
  • This is the hope of all believers in Christ.
  • We have his word on it… John 14:3… “ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

E) Hell shall remain

  • Revelation 21:8… “ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
  • Everyone has a different view of Hell.
  • Hell will not be a place of fun with all our friends.
